Well, the excitement is over; the boat is raised and it looks like the Mussel Farm may be back in business by Tuesday after some testing by the state on Monday.  Great day!

The saga of the sunken crab boat in Penn Cove continues.  An additional very large crane arrived during the night, having been brought from Lake Washington through the Ballard Locks.  We have been standing down at the bottom of our property this morning with our cups of coffee watching the preparation going on.  Apparently, there are about 50 people currently involved, and when it is raised sometime today, there may be as many as 80, according to news reports.  Sometime today, the road out front will be blocked to traffic, and helicopters will circle above to watch for leaks of fuel, as it is raised.  Wish I had my camera.  But the news media will probably provide lots of photos later.  Oh! They just blocked the road to traffic - gotta run and see what is happening.  More later...

Earlier this morning it was cloudy, even a bit misty. I walked into Coupeville along Penn Cove and was treated to the perfume of wild roses and honeysuckle. My favorite time of year.  Everything is so green.  I know no one will believe me, but my irises (purple and white) are 4 1/2 feet tall! And I have about 10 large red poppies on the poppy plant at the edge of the driveway.  I walked to the library to return a book, and then searched for another book by Susan Wittig Albert.  Oh my, it is so great to find a new author who writes charming stories with such imagination and skill.  I am in the midst of the Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter series, and just picked up one from her new series called The Darling Dahlias and the Cucumber Tree.

This weekend here on Penn Cove should be pretty exciting as the state is going to attempt to bring up the crab boat that sank about 3 weeks ago.  There is already one crane in position, and a second larger one is on its way tomorrow.  The plan is to raise the boat on Sunday sometime and hopefully, not negatively impact the mussel farm or surrounding waters with diesel spill.
